Adventure opening:

Centuries have passed since the Hellforge was operational. The old Dwarven keep was so named because the Dwarves there built an impressive forge powered by a portal into the Hells, contained by the magic of their priests. No one knows why the Dwarves abandoned the keep, and its location and secrets fell to legend.

A grief-stricken woman named Maggie has hired the adventurers to enter the ancient keep to find her lost husband, who dared to brave the depths alone.

Maggie and her husband Dhom served as guides to the canyons of the desert region known as “The Tear”. They discovered the ruins of Hellforge Keep when they led a group of adventurers there - none of whom survived the descent to the entrance of the keep itself, after ignoring Maggie and Dhom’s climbing advice.

Knowing the untold treasures that awaited them there, Dhom went off on his own. He made it down the cliff and disappeared into the keep, but he’s been gone for over a week now. Maggie refuses to believe he’s dead, and makes the crawlers a very enticing offer.

She’ll pay them 100gp each to explore the depths of the Hellforge and find Dhom. If they bring him back alive, she’ll also reward them with a magical set of chainmail that belonged to her father...plus all the treasures that await them below.
